Why social media is not working for you…

Truth bomb: Social media is NOT a magic wand.

You can’t just set up a couple of profiles for your business, post here and there promoting what you are selling and expect the magic to happen. It won’t automatically result in sales and the people who have liked your page (probably your family and friends) won’t suddenly buy from you.

If social media isn’t working for you, it’s not because the platforms don’t work. It’s because you are not looking at the bigger picture. Social media is powerful, it does get results but only if you understand where it fits within your business.

For it to be successful, you need to ensure you are also polishing the other elements that support it, such as a good website, good customer service, reputation, email marketing etc.

You also need to ensure that you are targeting the right people. Stop asking friends and family to share your page (unless they are your ideal customers) – this is equivalent of doing a maildrop to 1,000 houses where only 2 accommodate someone who would buy from you (and if you are doing that as well, you may want to stop wasting your budget).

Instead, spend a little money on social media advertising and target only the people who are likely to buy your product, such as your website visitors or those who match the profile of your existing customers. Bring them to your page, share content that is for them (not you) and nurture them on the path to conversion.
